About
Artificial intelligence in legal education and practice
Within a short time, artificial intelligence has ceased to be a futurological topic and has become a real working tool for lawyers. Systems based on large language models now support case-law analysis, document review in transactions, the drafting of pleadings and the handling of client enquiries. At the same time, they confront the legal community with questions of reliability, accountability, confidentiality and the limits of automation in professions of public trust.
The conference “AI in Legal Education and Practice” is devoted to two closely related areas. The first is legal education: how to teach students and trainee lawyers in a world where AI tools are widely available, how to design methods of assessing knowledge and skills, and which competences – analytical, ethical and technological – a law graduate should have. The second is practice: AI deployments in law firms, in-house legal departments, public administration and the judiciary, together with their limitations and risks.
Particular attention will be paid to the regulatory framework, including Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 of the European Parliament and of the Council (the AI Act), personal data protection, professional secrecy and the rules of legal ethics. We invite academics, legal practitioners, doctoral candidates and students to join an interdisciplinary reflection on how to use new technologies in law responsibly.
